Dvaimātura
A short photo series.
Every year, we welcome Lord Ganesha on earth from Kailasa with these representative idols, with grandeur no other God would experience. With grand celebrations, colorfully decked up stages, and the size of the idols true to the name - Mahakaaya (with a gigantic body), Ganesha Chaturti is no less a grand festival. A widely worshiped deity by many, who bestows prosperous beginning, intellect, and wisdom.
Dvaimātura - One with two mothers.
As per the story, Ganesha has two mothers - Parvathi and Gange. Here the craftsmen carefully mold the idol with clay and fill life with colors. Ganesha has a mother on earth, too, the one who creates - the craftsmen.
The idols are imaginations put into shape to give a face to God. God, in my terms, is a supernatural power; containing him in a small idol is a paradox. We worship God in various forms. Do we still see God in a deformed idol? Is the whole idea of God an imagination or fiction?
