How did one Himalayan trek change things for us
Continued from here…
21 April — MBC to Himalaya
Due to the excessive snowfall that day, the hotel owner and the guides there insisted not to go to ABC. People who had started early in the morning had to return halfway. We had to decide to not go until the ABC and go back. The heart-breaking decision, we felt a little broken! We packed our bags, hiked back to Himalaya, and stayed in the same room.
22 April — Himalaya to Chomrong
We had booked a room in Bamboo but we reached much earlier than we thought. We decided to go further until Chomrong and that was the longest day on the trail. We had bruises in the legs and I was limping the last stretch due to muscle cramps. We had a hot water shower after 6 days, tea, 2 large Margherita Pizza, and stir-fried noodles. The owner was kind and offered us a room with the best view of the mountains. We massaged our own legs a bit, curled into the blankets, and slept off.
The daunting steps and the climb seemed easier after the first couple of days. The rucksacks felt lighter day by day. I didn’t find it challenging walking with the sandals when my trekking shoes gave up on the trail. After the hot water shower, sumptuous food, and great hospitality, we forgot the pain and the muscle soreness from the 11 hours exhausting trek on our way back from Himalaya to Chomrong.
Shot around 2 AM from the windowpane of our stay at Chomrong.
The clouds gave a break for a short duration that night.
23 April — Trekked from Chomrong to a village near Kyumi and a bus ride to Pokhara
The mother and daughter at the Chomrong stay had made some delicious chocolate cake and tea for breakfast. It was such a pleasant feeling. The last bus from Kyumi to Pokhara was at 3 pm and we had to rush through the trail. A long dusty and bumpy ride took us to Pokhara.
24 April — Pokhara
We went around the streets, hunted for good coffee and food on the next day at Pokhara. Paragliding was on our list and we wanted to do it Pokhara. We dropped that plan since nothing more seemed exciting than the trek! We walked around the Phewa lake area, visited the International Mountain Museum and the cave temple.
25 April — Pokhara to Kathmandu
We left Pokhara early morning and reached the ‘Metro Hotel’ by evening. The same way back to Kathmandu but with loads of memories to remember for the rest of the life.
26 April — Kathmandu
We visited the Monkey Temple, Narayanhiti palace museum, the Darbar square, and walked in the local markets. we found an Indian style Dhaba for our dinner.
27 April — Kathmandu to Bengaluru
The hotel owner agreed to let us in the kitchen and we cooked for an Indian couple who were staying at the hotel. We reached the airport early and our flight was rescheduled 1 hour early to the departure time.
It is said that the mountain changes one’s life. We didn’t believe that until we stood face to face with the Himalaya in Nepal. The mountains taught us to appreciate something outside ourselves and made us realize that there are bigger things and a bigger picture to look at. If not completely changed, we now know how do we approach the change. We found what we went looking for, we learned to self teach what we do not know. I think we all live for these experiences, stepping out of our comfort zone makes us more comfortable.
We all live to experience something new and something different, isn’t it? There are some experiences and feelings, which cannot be put in words, this trek is one such thing. There are days, we recall this trek and wish we could go back right then. If we are trying anything to be a little more fit, it is only because we want to go back there again. Every little thing we experienced and felt there is still in our hearts. This trek has left us longing for another one. And it definitely changed us, changed us in a good way.
